Although newer wallpaper is often washable, older papers may not be and may become dirtier than you can tolerate. Washable wallpaper can be sponged off with a mild detergent. Before washing wallpaper, test an inconspicuous area. Loose edges and tears can easily be reglued. Moisten the damaged area and lift the wallpaper away from the wall. Apply a thin layer of adhesive to the back of the loose paper. Press it back into place and sponge off any extra adhesive.
