Q: We just purchased a house that is about
35-40 years old. There are 4x4 plastic tiles applied with a glue
base in both bathrooms. The shower in the master has plastic tile
that is in great shape, but we aren't sure if this should be sealed
somehow. The inspector who looked at the house said that moisture
would get behind the tile and ruin the drywall. Any suggestions?
A: You might talk to some porcelain and enamel refinishers because they repair and cover all kinds of plumbing fixtures and products, including tile, porcelain, enamel, fiberglass, acrylic, cultured marble and onyx and even plastic laminate (i.e. formica countertops). They are usually very good about telling you when it would make more sense to replace instead of refinish, even if it means they lose the business, because they want results they can stand behind.

Good luck!
