Q: My contractor quoted me
a price of $2.80/ft for redwood siding, but when it was not available
in our 10 inch requirement he found siding made of rialto pine.
He said it is specially treated and more expensive than redwood.
I was under the impression that pine would not last as long as redwood or is there a special process I am unaware of that makes it just as good?
A: Call around to two or three different lumber yards to see what they say about the products and the prices. You might also look the wood up on the Internet. I always try to ask someone who does not sell either product, then you will know they are not just interested in a sale.
