Q: I have a two-story house that was built in 1861. I would like your advice on replacing the lath and plaster on the wall and ceiling on the second level?

Can I use ridged insulation between the studs?

A: Do you mean foam insulation? I would just go with batt insulation. I do not care for foam insulation because you won't ever be able to run anything in the walls. I also don't like vapor barriers since they trap radon throughout the house in some areas. Sometimes you can seal a house too much, which could be dangerous to your health.
