The time for holiday visitors might seem a long way off, but if you want your home looking great to impress the in-laws, the time to start is now.

Contractors typically feel the crunch right before the holidays when homeowners decide to do last minute remodeling projects. The following are some areas of your home to consider updating before the surge of visitors.

Kitchen:

Look over your kitchen to see if anything needs to be replaced.
Does the floor need to be replaced?
Check the condition of the countertops, cabinets, appliances and lighting.
Replacing the appliances can make a huge difference.

Bathrooms:

Take a close look at the condition of the baths in your house.
Does the tile need new grout or to be replaced?
Is the ceiling above the shower peeling?
Would a new floor brighten the room?

Living Area:

If the carpet in your living room is looking a bit tired, schedule a professional carpet cleaning.
If your carpet is beyond cleaning, consider installing new carpeting.
Visit the room where your guests will be staying.
For the benefit of your guests, make this room as comfortable and appealing as possible.

Entrance:

Remember that even in colder months, the first thing visitors will see is the entrance to your home.
Think about last winter. Did ice accumulate on your walkway, or did ice dams form on the roof?
Take care of any of these concerns before it gets too cold.
