Q: I'm interested in having
my duplex repaired. I have already been in contact with a roofing
contractor who gave me an estimate on replacing the roof. I understand
he also has a general contractor's license so I wonder if he can
also install the bathroom tile and fixtures?
There is also work to be done in the kitchen. Can you help me find people to do all of this?
A: If your roofer has a general contractor's license, he should be able to do the repairs. However, we usually recommend getting about three competitive bids for home improvement projects. So you might have him give you a separate, detailed estimate for the rest of repairs, and then ask a couple of other general contractors to come bid on it too. That is usually the best way to determine the best way to tackle a project, as well as receive a fair price and a preferred professional.
