Garage Door Repairs

If you're thinking of replacing your garage door, keep these
facts in mind. Garage doors are made from wood, steel, aluminum,
vinyl and fiberglass. Some of the pros and cons are discussed
below.
- Wood is preferred more for its appearance and affordability
than for its durability. Because wood expands and contracts and
can warp or crack as it weathers, it demands regular maintenance
- repainting or refinishing every couple of years. The most durable
panels are made of composites and are guaranteed to last for
twenty years or more.
- Steel garage doors are much stronger and more secure than
wood, aluminum, or fiberglass ones. Thanks to new technologies,
today's steel doors rival the look of wood without the maintenance.
- Aluminum garage doors have enjoyed many of the same design
advances as steel. Aluminum single-piece, tilt-up doors are fairly
popular because they are extremely lightweight, will not rust
and are relatively inexpensive.
- Fiberglass doors actually have an aluminum frame with fiberglass
sections. Like aluminum, fiberglass is very lightweight. Other
advantages of fiberglass are resistance to salt air corrosion
and translucency.
- Vinyl garage doors are becoming increasingly popular. Vinyl
offers all the advantages of wood and steel plus more. Vinyl
will not dent or rust like steel would. Compared to wood, vinyl
doesn't require the maintenance of painting and will not warp
or rot.
