Q: We have had some foundation damage as a result of a flood. We have been advised that we need to have slurry pumped underneath the house, to fill the large voids that were washed away.

I have located companies that will mix and pump the slurry, however I am trying to locate a company that has the equipment and expertise to bore holes throughout the foundation. Thank you for your assistance.

A: Thanks for your inquiry. I contacted a foundation repair company and was told that although you can find companies that will bore those holes for you, it is not a good idea to have a different company bore the holes than the one who pumps the slurry under the house. This is because if any problems arise, it will be too easy for each company to blame the other, leaving you stuck in the middle.

It would be far more prudent to hire one single foundation repair specialist to do or oversee all the work and therefore be totally responsible for its success or to fix any problems that could arise. Given that your foundation supports your entire home, it's important that it be done right. It would probably be a good idea to collect bids from up to three licensed specialists, both to make sure that pumping slurry is the best solution, and to know that the price is fair.
