Q: My husband and I are planning to expand our bathroom in the near future. However, the expansion takes us over a covered rubber roof that has been enclosed to make some type of storage area.

You can hire a structural engineer on your own. However, a general contractor will do the actual work, so it is often easier to start by talking to contractors experienced with additions and let them recommend or coordinate directly with engineers with whom they are comfortable working.
