Concrete sawing is done with special
diamond coated blades. There are many different kinds of special
equipment and most are quite expensive, the blades become dull
and need replacing. It requires skill and experience to do more
detailed concrete sawing and drilling so it is a rather expensive
service. Most concrete sawing companies have a minimum charge
of $200 or $300 just to take their equipment to a site and cut.
Most commonly homeowners find they need to cut into existing concrete to repair a broken water pipe or sewer line that is running under a concrete patio, driveway or walkway, or to dig trenches and lay pipe under existing concrete slabs/pads to add drainage to their yard. Sometimes a homeowner might want just part of a patio or other concrete pad cut in order to alter their landscaping. A concrete saw is useful in demolition work, as to break up and remove a cracked or unwanted patio, driveway or walkway.
Commercially, concrete or core drilling may be necessary to add plumbing and electrical services to tilt-up concrete panel walls. Other applications include holes to anchor bolts or lifting rods, to place explosive charges, to install load-carrying devices like dowel bars, or for analysis of the structure or rock.
The presence of reinforcement bars ("rebars") will mean more labor, specialized equipment and ultimately a higher cost to the home or business owner.
Service professionals will charge extra to haul away and dispose of the old concrete, but considering the labor involved it's likely worth the cost.
