Agents: Trade Links

Directory by Real-Estate-Agents.com

If you are a real estate agent with a professional website, I invite you to exchange links. Please be sure you understand and meet the terms below before you submit your information; it will save us both time, and keep me in a better mood.

Please navigate to the category you wish to be listed in, and look for the Add URL link at the bottom of the page.

To answer a common question: building this website is my only involvement with real estate. The project was born when I bought the domain name from a fellow in Tokyo in 2003. This site is a part-time undertaking, so please allow two or three weeks for your link to be posted. -- Elisabeth Archambault

... here's a code snippet to copy and paste into your page's source code:

For an even simpler link, like this ...

... use this:

NOTE 1: Please use the URL as provided (including the trailing slash), and note that I do NOT want to have the www. bit added in. It's okay to add formatting information, and I might accept some variations in the anchor text, but the URL must be exact. The link must be constructed so that search engine spiders will have no trouble recognizing the URL and indexing it accurately. That means no javascript, no tracking stuff added, no redirects, no framing, etc. -- just a plain-vanilla HTML text link.

NOTE 2: When you link to this site, this domain name itself will add good "spider food" and support your site's theme. ("Spider food" is text content that helps search engine spiders discern what your site is about.) That's why I have the confidence to specify a link on your home page, not just on a links page. Some people prefer not to link out from their home page. If you're one of them, watch this space because I hope to offer some options for paid listings which might suit you better.

NOTE 3: To get this site launched I rounded up a number of agents' sites at random and listed them for free, but over time they are being replaced by agents who link back. Some states have no freebies left. I take out the "starter" listings at random, you don't get to pick who you "bump"! (Yes, someone asked .... )

Elisabeth's MOST IMPORTANT ADVICE for your website:

Keep your domain name registration up to date!

If you let your domain name lapse, your site won't work, and worse, the name is fair game to be registered by anyone else who comes along.

There are people on the web who make a business of grabbing expired domains to use for their own purposes. Often that's legitimate, but sometimes it can get ugly. I recently had to remove a Canandian agent's link because they let their domain lapse, and it was grabbed by a guy who used it to funnel unsuspecting surfers to a porn site. He was willing to sell the domain back to the agent -- for an inflated price, of course. It was an embarrassing, expensive mess that could have been prevented very cheaply.

When is your domain name due for renewal? There are a number of sites where you can verify your domain registration details. One I like is http://www.betterwhois.com/ . Look up your domain and check the expiry date, and check that your contact information is current while you're at it. To extend your registration or make a change in your WHOIS info, you'll have to go through your own registrar. If you're not sure how to do that, check with your webmaster. It's possible to register your domain for several years into the future, and I recommend doing so.

This might be the most important thing anyone told you all day: Keep Your Domain Registration Up To Date!

Suggestion: While you're adding links, check out U101 College Search. It lists college and university web sites throughout the US and Canada. Some real estate sites find it useful to link to the page for their state or province, as part of the regional information they provide for potential clients.
